Our Dream City is a campaign designed by StoryCycle that focuses on empowering local youth and communities to take an active part in designing and making their places vibrant by using technology. The campaign focuses on enabling instigators with digital tools, arts and a platform to engage their own community as well as civic processes. Together with the British Council, StoryCycle will conduct a four-day Map-Up camp. The primary objective of this activity is to expose participants to the process of gathering, curating and disseminating data through free digital tools. Additionally, conversations around urban planning and design and how modern technology may help create more inclusive communities will be discussed.
The final activity of the campaign will include again a 4-day camp focused this time on storytelling. Based on the content generated from the mapping process, each participant will be supported to create their presentations based on data/information collected in the prior activities. Multiple stories will be collected through the engagement of each participant in and around the locality to gather as many perspectives to feed into the ‘Dream City’ concept. Stories will be collected in audio-visual form via mobile device.
Through active youth engagement, Map points and series of stories around the area will be gathered. Heritage walk;a route will be developed engaging youths to instigate thought around stories that might reflect the value of the locality. Outputs from the participants will be collated and edited by StoryCycle towards a digital release. As much as possible the content will be made interactive and widely accessible. Once released, StoryCycle and British Council will promote the content to reach additional audiences and work on generating additional income to sustain engagement in the locality, as well as to secure a buy-in from the Mayor’s Office for a consistent role for the British Council in the development of the site.
